[ARCHIVED] South Midland Announcements - Major Work on Mount Sopris Drive & Atkinson Trail Parking Lot Closure

Mount Sopris Drive Work 

Crews continue working on a storm sewer line this week that requires a one-lane closure on Mount Sopris Drive and Midland Avenue beginning daily at 7:00 a.m. All school drop off and pick up must use roundabout for access during this time. Please plan extra travel time and thank you for your patience!

Atkinson Trail Parking Lot Closed

The small parking lot next to the trail access for Atkinson Trail will be CLOSED for one week. Crews are working on curb, and access drive paving. Sidewalk access will still be available on South Midland.

 

Weekend Work on Sunday, October 3rd  

Crews will be in the area working on wall construction to prepare for paving activities next week.

 

Next Week: PAVING!

Next week, on October 7th and 8th, paving crews will be on South Midland. Permanent paving activities will take place from the new roundabout to North Park West.

 

About the South Midland Reconstruction Project

The 18-month-long reconstruction project will better serve the South Glenwood Springs Community for years to come. The South Midland corridor had been prone to potholes, poor site lines, regular rockfall events, and there were gaps in pedestrian infrastructure amidst the backdrop of rising traffic volumes. Approximately one-third of Glenwood Springs residents use this corridor, so that is why it is critical to Keep South Midland Moving. Construction activities began in December 2020 and will continue through Summer 2022.
