Motorists should plan for a lane closure and intermittent holds on S. Midland Avenue beginning at 1 p.m. today, March 14 for rock clean up. Crews will return to the area in April for additional clean up.
Rockfall/slough (pronounced ‘sluff’) is more common in spring due to runoff and changing temperatures. Mitigation work has helped to stabilize slopes and containing some slough behind nets to drop down into the catchment area. The soil nail walls and netting are working as designed to mitigate the risk of rockfall, but it remains a natural hazard. Stay alert in the corridor during spring thaw, after heavy rains, and at night.
